Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Training
OCMHC & Center for Student Success highly recommends all students, faculty, and staff take the QPR training which provides skills for sitting with a peer in crisis and having difficult conversations about suicide prevention. This 40 minute training focuses on how to ask difficult questions, persuade peers to seek help, and refers peers to appropriate mental health health resources. |

If you are interested in enhancing your peer support skills, the Center for Student Success offers Introduction to Peer Helping Skills (LEAD 201/202) courses for 2 credits under their Learning Enhancement (LEAD) programs.

Student Help & Resource Exchange (SHARE):
The Student Help and Resource Exchange (SHARE) program promotes student success by providing a forum for faculty, staff, and students to share concerns, supporting a collaborative approach, and providing opportunities for meaningful interactions. Student can connect with the SHARE advisor of the Day by scheduling an appointment or calling the Office of the Dean of Students at any time during business hours. Active Listening Skills for Obies (ALSO) Workshops:
Active Listening Skills for Obies (ALSO) workshops highlight verbal, non-verbal, and mindset listening skills critical to holding a non-directive support space. for peers. Additionally, this workshop prepares peers to refer one another to campus resources when applicable. This workshop is beneficial for those interested in enhancing effective communication, active listening, and peer-support. Additionally, this workshop teaches everyday skills that can be used in a more general capacity such as for job interviews, team building, career enhancement, employing difficult conversations, working in groups, and so much more! |
After-Hours Counseling Support
It’s 2 a.m. You’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious. You don’t know where to turn or who to call. The Counseling Center’s after-hours telephone counseling support is available to help. Call for crisis support at 855-256-7160. This service is available outside of our regular business hours (8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday) and during academic breaks. All calls are free and confidential for Oberlin students. |
